MILITARY  MEDAL

Date of Reccomendation : 15/04/1917

” A regimental stretcher bearer brought under notice for conspicuous bravery  and determination displayed in bringing in wounded in the face of heavy shell, rifle and Machine Gun fire during the attack on the HINDENBURG LINE in front of REINCOURT  on the 11th April 1917 and on the following day.  He showed great eagerness to go out for more wounded as soon as those brought in were dressed and stretchers were available for use again.  He succeeded in bringing in a number of wounded , even during the period when  all stretcher bearers who ventured  into “No Mans Land ”  were deiberately fired on by enemy’s Machine Guns.  He was with three other stretcher bearers who grouped together because they work in one party.  They are all recommended for distinction (  1595-Buswell,  2389- England,  3461- Fox,  1383- Taylor- Privates England & Fox were awarded Military Medals on a previous occasion for similar work ) “.
