DETAILS OF DEATH

The Australian Red Cross Society Wounded and Missing Enquiry Bureau Files have seven (7 ) statements in relation to Blechynden’s Death. One report is as follows :- ” Killed – 1/07/1917 – I saw him killed by shell at Hill 63 just behind Messines, died instantly. I was at his burial at N.Z. Cemetery near Hill 63, the Church of England Chaplain of the 4th Division buried him and a cross was placed on his grave. He came from W. Australia, we came in the same boat ” Argyllshire” left 9 November 1916. He was slight build , fair and about 20 “. Witness- 2867- TROTTER, A.L, 45th Battalion.
