Date  of  Recommendation : 22 September 1917

‘ For conspicuous gallantry , near BIRR CROSS ROADS on MENIN – YPRES ROAD on 14th September 1917,  when in company with another officer, he succeeded in extinguishing a serious fire which had broken out on an ammunition train situated between two gun pits.  The work was carried out at  considerable risk from exploding ammunition and this officer showed a fine example and saved a cosiderable amount of ammunition “.
