AWARD OF MILITARY MEDAL

Date of Recommendation – 15 April, 1917.

” Is brought under notice for the very fine work performed by him throughout the attack on the Hindenburg line near REINCOURT on the morning of the 11th April, 1917. He displayed absolute fearlessness in advancing to the end objective through uncut wire, and it was in a great measure due to his splendid example that his men attained the end objective in this way.He was among the last to retire at all times along the trench when the enemy started to overcome our men on account of tanks and bombs and ammunition.  He was instrumental in repulsing with heavy loss many heavy  bombing attacks by the enemy. His devotion to duty and coolness whilst under heavy bombing was magnificent. He is strongly recommended for distinction “. – ( Maj0r General William HOLMES ).
