MILITARY MEDAL
Date of Recommendation : 29 June 1918
” As NCO in charge of Lewis Gun with the left team in a raid carried out on enemy trenches on the night of 25th/26th June 1918, near SAILLY-LAURETTE, Lance Corporal DICKSON displayed great courage and devotion to duty. His gallantry and leadership in pushing his Lewis Gun well out to the left flank of the left team and engaging enemy Machine Guns on the flank proved invaluable to the party he was covering. He and his team rendered splendid work under exceptionally trying circumstances as they were continually under very heavy machine gun fire and Minenwerfer barrage. At one stage he crossed No Man’s Land, obtained more ammunition and returned to his post. When the order was given to return to our lines he led his team into No Mans Land and took up a position where he covered the retirement of the raiders. ( Strength of Raiding Party 2 Officers 50 O.R ) . His courage and gallantry were of an exceptionally high order “.
