Senior Nurse, Helen DOYLE sailed for England in December 1914, at 28 Years of Age. She nursed at Coombe Lodge Auxiliary Military Hospital at Great Warley Essex from 6th March 1915 until 20th August 1915. Nurse DOYLE then enlisted with Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service ( QAIMNS ) on 23rd August 1915.
She undertook extensive service in France from October 1915 until February 1919.
Nurse Doyle returned to Australia on 21st May 1919 per troop transport ship ” Osterley ”
She remained in the Nursing Profession in W.A. until her retirement in 1959. Her postings as a Matron included Country Hospitals such as Margaret River, Sandstone District, Wiluna District, Northam Migrant, Geraldton Maternity and at Kiama Private Wembley.
NOTE; Nurse Doyle also had two Brothers who enlisted in the Great War 1914-1918- Pte. DOYLE, Sidney Campbell, 2880, 16th Battalion who returned to Australia for Discharge and Pte. DOYLE, Henry Wright, 3450, 16th Battalion, who was Killed in Action in Belgium on 26 September, 1917.
