2nd Field Company Engineers – Captain Geoffrey DRAKE-BROCKMAN:-
“On the Somme, between 23rd and 26th July 1916, during the attack on Pozieres, the O.C. 2nd Field Company Engineers was badly wounded. Capt. BROCKMAN then took command of the Company and ably directed the work of the Company under very heavy shell fire and most difficult conditions, owing to the fact that the Company had suffered heavy casualties, and that the work ordered to be done had, therefore, to be carried out with reduced numbers.
By his personal example and initiative this Officer caused the Company to carry on with the work, which was successfully completed according to orders”.

AWARD OF MILITARY CROSS

Date of Award : 7th March 1917.

Recommendation:  “During the period 10th December 1916, to 10th January 1917, owing to the absence of the Company Commander, he took command of the Company which was engaged on front line work in a very difficult sector at Flers, and carried out his work in a very able and efficient manner, and set a fine example of devotion to duty”.
