MENTION IN DESPATCHES (1)- 29/04/1916
“This officer came over to Egypt a reinforcement officer, and joined his unit at Anzac. He was specially selected as the officer to train and supervise the important duties of scouting in front of the enemy until the evacuation took place. He carried out particularly valuable and meritorious work and I cannot speak too highly of his devotion, energy and general efficiency. His name is submitted for favourable mention”.
MENTION IN DESPATCHES (2)- 19/06/1917
“This officer showed marked ability and judgement in bringing round the left of the line in the early morning of Gaza operations 19/04/1918 when the enemy trenches were sighted. This movement caused the enemy in the front line trenches to surrender. Again
in the afternoon he pushed forward his Squadron to the left centre with great gallantry, taking up the high ground and prevented enemy enfilading our right. This mention is supported by Col. L.C. MAGAR VC”.
AUTHOR NOTE
Charles Gilmour DUNCKLEY died from Tuberculosis at the Edward Millen Home Victoria Park on 5th July 1924 at 39 years of age. He was buried at the Karrakatta Cemetery Perth at Anglican Section JA, Grave No. 0311.
