” During the operations at ZONNEBEKE on 4/5th October 1917 , Private FAIRGRIEVE showed great bravery and disregard for personal safety , and set a fine example to his fellow men whilst working under very heavy shell fire.  He worked untiringly in order to maintain communications to the forward area by both telephone and visual signalling , and thereby his superior officers were kept well informed of the situation at all times.  The actions of Private FAIRGRIEVE  are worthy of the highest praise “.
