” During operations East of JEANCOURT on 18th September 1918 , CPL GARDINER  dispayed great dash and initiative .  In the face of heavy Machine Gun fire he rushed forward and captured  single-handed a Machine Gun  and crew, which was holding up the advance near GRAND PRIEL WOOD “.
