PHEASANT WOOD CEMETERY FROMELLES – MASS GRAVE VICTIMS

It is almost certain that Guy Somerville Dion GIBNEY is one of the unidentified bodies recovered from the Mass Grave near Fromelles, awaiting positive DNA identification, prior to being interred in a suitably Inscribed Official War Grave within the purpose built Pheasant Wood Cemetery Fromelles France.

Letter to Army Base Records, from Iris T. GIBNEY ” Winchcombe “, Harvey WA dated 3 January 1921 re. 1803- GIBNEY, Pte. Guy Somerville Dion – 32nd Battalion AIF, re. Granting of War Medals-
” My mother as far as I know is still alive, but my brother and myself were deserted by her as babies and we have never heard from her, I do not know her address even. My father is dead, and I have no other brothers or sisters, so I consider myself justly next of kin, and shall be glad to receive the Medals as same “.
