” The conclusion by the Unrecovered War Casualties Unit is that 4446 Private Donald Roy HISLOP was, in all likelihood, killed in action during attacks at Pozieres, France on 4 August, 1916″.

The only direct clear evidence of the Soldier’s fate was provided by 4516- PICKERSGILL. W, who confirmed they had both enlisted at Blackboy Hill Camp, being in the same Platoon and Company.  In a Statement he made on 21 March, 1917  he said that “he was alongside HISLOP when he was blown up by a shell in No Mans Land at Pozieres on 4th August, 1916”.
