17/10/1917- Letter from NEWTON MOORE( Western Australian Government Offices , Savoy House, Strand, London to Colonel T. GRIFFITHS, Commandant AIF Headquarters AIF. ” Private H. H. HOLLEY, No. 5971, A Coy, 16th Battalion, who is well known to me as a settler in my District in Western Australia, and who thought it his duty to join the A. I. F. , has, I understand, been invalided, suffering from Debility after Pneumonia and Cardiac Weakness, and is now at Littlemore Camp, near Weymouth. I am told he has been classified C.2, recommended 6 months in Australia with no duties, and considered permanently unfit for Active Service.
As Holley’s wife and relations–all in England– are willing and anxious to look after him, and he wants to be allowed to remain in England, if you could see your way to permit his discharge here, instead of sending him back to Western Australia, where he has no one who could care for him, I should be very glad “.
HOLLEY was discharged in the U. K. on 15 November, 1917.
