6/11/2014– Information from BERYL HOUGH:-
( 1 )- William Edward Hough ( Junior ) moved to Bunbury early in life, with his parents. Tragically, his parents died in Bunbury in 1902. William was admitted to Swanleigh Home in Middle Swan on 7th February 1903. He was baptised at Middle Swan on 23rd April 1904. When he was discharged from the Home on 17th February 1909, William went to live with his Aunt , Evelyn Hough in Northam WA.
( 2 )- The ” Ascanius ” linked with a convoy of 34 Troop Transport ships approx. 300 miles out into the Indian Ocean from Fremantle. Their escort Cruisers included the ” Minotaur ” from Britain, the ” Ibuku ” from Japan and the ” Melbourne “. Our Cruiser ” Sydney ” was astern of the convoy. Although the convoy was en. route for England, they were diverted to Egypt for Training at Mena Camp, prior to the fateful venture to the Gallipoli Peninsula.
( 3 )- After Discharge from the AIF, William met Ethel Jane Bonser, and they married in Bunbury in 1919. Their Ashes have been placed in the Wall of Remembrance at the Karrakatta Cemetry Perth WA.
19/11/2014- Information from JOY MORT:-
( 1 )- Soldier’s Father, William Edward HOUGH died at Bunbury Hospital on 1st December 1902, of Pneumonia, aged 31 Years. He was the Husband of Martha, son of John HOUGH and Elizabeth HOUGH ( nee HEYWOOD ). His Burial was at Church of England, Bunbury.
( 2 )- Soldier’s Mother, Martha HOUGH died at Bunbury Hospital on 23rd August 1902, during a Heart operation, aged 36 years. She was the wife of William Edward HOUGH and daughter of Alexander GUY and Elizabeth GUY.

” During our advance on the BLUE LINE on 10th August 1918, when all the Lewis Gunners of Sgt. Hough’s platoon had become casualties, this N.C.O. immediately took up the gun and brought it into very effective use against the enemy position. Later, when the enemy Machine Gun fire became very intense and impeded our advance, Sgt. HOUGH, on his own initiative, rushed forward with the Gun to a point of vantage and by skilful covering fire , enabled his platoon to get forward and consolidate. Sgt. HOUGH was severely wounded in this operation “
