“At Ras El Nagh on 8th November 1917, for cospicuous work in advancing his line in face of heavy machine gun fire and holding onto position with much depleted force, and although severely pressed, held onto his position for ten hours until supported by other troops. His conduct was most gallant”.

BAR TO MILITARY MEDAL – 4th Battalion Imperial Camel Corps.
“For conspicuous bravery during the attack on a hill near Amman on 30th March 1918, in the morning, the enemy made a strong attack on and drove our men from their position.
By his conspicuous bravery and daring Captain HOWARD, with a Company, was three times strongly attacked by superior numbers of the enemy and on one occasion his men were driven out of their position.
Captain HOWARD immediately organized and led a counter attack, which proved highly successful. During the whole of the day, Captain HOWARD, under heavy fire, continually moved up and down organizing the line and cheering his men, and although his Company suffered heavy casualties, he was able to hold onto his position of the line until it was evacuated that night”.
