Soldier’s Death Details

29/06/1917- Informant – 329- HANSEN, Pte. A. B. T. – 4th Machine Gun Company – ” On the 11th April 1917 I was working with the gun next to the gun Pte. KNIGHTS was attached to, a distance of about 10 yards away. I had been with him a few minutes and returned to my gun when three trench mortar bombs came over our trench where KNIGHTS gun was. I went round to see what had happened and found the whole crew with the exception of one man had been blown to pieces. I saw no trace of KNIGHTS to be seen anywhere “.

” Edward KNIGHTS and James Thomas FISHER enlisted together, trained together with the 4th Machine Gun Reinforcements in WA, were shipped to England together, then posted to France to fight in the First Battle of Bullecourt.  Unfortunately, Edward was killed when by James side, before James was captured and taken Prisoner of War at Emu Valley, near Reincourt France “.
