REPORT OF SOLDIER’S DEATH

Informant – FLOWER, Cpl. L.R. -6578- 2

8th Battalion ” B ” Company AIF – ” Near Beaurevoir, about 7.00 am, during an attack about half an hour or less after we hopped over, I was stretcher bearing following up LANGLEY and other men, when a shell hit LANGLEY on the left collarbone. The artery was cut, however, he was the only one of the five men showing any life . I tried to dress the wound and succeeded in stopping the bleeding, but he was dead before I finished. The shell burst among the men and the concussion was terrific. I was within five yards, but the shell burst away from me “.
