MILITARY CROSS
“On 5th August 1916 at Hamisah, he was in charge of a troop on the extreme right of our position and by his timely dash was responsible for the envelopment of the enemy’s flank which eventually led to their defeat and capitulation.
On 7th August 1916, at Sagia, he was in charge of the Advance Party and showed conspicuous bravery in withdrawing his men from a very precarious position.
On 10th August at Mushalfat, he again showed great coolness under extremely trying circumstances, and his timely arrival under another Officer in the early evening when the Turks attacked in large numbers was of inestimable value. Lieutenant LYALL at great personal risk carried a brother officer out of action at Hamisah on the 5th August”.
