During the attack on Es Salt, on 3/5/1918, a bomb burst near him injuring face and shoulders. Was sent to Receiving Station Jericho, and thence evacuated to CCS Jerusalem, but died on the way. Was buried on roadside  between Jericho and Jerusalem “.

Informant:- FITZMAURICE, Sergeant J- 10th Light Horse Regiment-” On night 3rd May our troop was holding up the advance of the Turks on Es Salt. We were heavily attacked 4 different times. In course of second attack  he was doing splendid work when a bomb was thrown, burst right behind where he was kneeling.  A piece of the bomb hit him  in the forehead. He was not unconscious at the time he was taken to the Ambulance by the stretcher-bearer Oakes of the 3rd Field Ambulance. I went over   to inquire about him  and found he was just leaving for Hospital in Jericho.  He was still conscious but died later in the Jericho Hospital.  He was buried alongside the Hospital just off the old Roman road with a cross with all particulars “.
