PRISONER OF WAR – RED CROSS FILES SUMMARY
22/06/1917- London- From Witness Pte. Stewart, 6214, 16th Battalion ( Escaped Prisoner of War )- ” Measures. J 1837- Missing 11/04/1917. I know he is Prisoner of War. He was on the Peninsula. Name is Joe. Is an Englishman. He was well, and with the working party at Marquion “. NOTE : Witness was clear and quite reliable in his information. In all cases Pte. Stewart was able to supply the Rank, number or initial of the missing man. He gave most of the information from memory as he feared to raise suspicion by attempting to compile a complete list from his fellow captives. Naturally he knew only a small percentage of them, but his memory seemed excellent and he was most anxious to supply all possible particulars. I understand a full report of Pte. Stewart’s and L/Corporal Parsons experiences has been sent to Australia by Lieut. Col Murdoch .
