PRISONER OF WAR – RED CROSS FILES SUMMARY

9/06/1917- Reference Pte. Barlow, 6000, No. 11 Convalescent Camp Buchy near Rouen France – ”  Missing 16/04/1917.  Informant states that Llew Meredith  came from Cookernup, Western Australia and that he knew him very well.  On the Sunday after Easter Day  the Germans came over and surrounded  the whole of No. 15 Platoon which had somehow  or other got out of position.  All were taken prisoners , and informant saw their hands go up “.

5/07/1917- London- From German List  dated 2/06/1917- ” Missing 15/04/1917.  Prisoner of War – Interred at Limburg.  Captured Prouville  15/04/1917 “.

3/08/1917- London- From German Death List dated 3/07/1917- ” Prisoner of War. Reported Died Feld  Lazarette “.

21/09/1917- London-  Certified by German Nachlass List dated 27/08/1917-  ” Prisoner of War.  Died 13/05/1917 no further particulars given “.

19/01/1918- London- letter from German Red Cross Berlin dated 22/12/1917- ” Prisoner of War.  Our investigations re 1979 Meredith have so far yielded no results.  We will however continue  them and will communicate with you if successful “.

1/08/1918- London- Information from the Irish Womens Association by letter to Central Prisoner of War dated 18/06/1918- ”  Now reported at Limburg camp “.

11/09/1918- London-  ” Rept: Died.  Your Cable 30/07- Last letter received from above  dated 2nd April before capture.  Twenty one letters sent to him have been returned “.

10/01/1919- A. D. C. London-  From Informant Pte. G. Carvill  6022, 11th Battalion  D Company 15th Platoon  statement to Red Cross- ” Died Prisoner of War.  Meredith of D Company 15th Platoon . He contracted fever while working  behind the line at  Auerlin , France.  He was taken to Hospital  at Templeux where he died.  Know nothing of burial.  I saw him the night before he was taken away. He was then very weak  from want of food.  Didn’t ask for anything “.

26/03/1919- London –  Statement from Captain Mills dated 22/03/1919- ” Died Prisoner of War.  Paybook sent in acc.  list 3/08/1917 ( Croix- Rouge , Geneva ). Prisoner of War Information Bureau, Berlin-  Card exists-  Died 13/05/1917-  Buried at Templeure  ( Dep. Nord ) Cemetery, E Grave  No. 66.  Enquiries are being made  from Army Corps concerned  as to cause of Death and Grave Location “.
