AUTHORS NOTE
From South Western Times ( Bunbury ) of Thursday 29 January 1920 – ” William Morgan who had recently joined the crew of the S. S. SOLFELS as a Fireman, was walking along the Bunbury Jetty in the direction of the ship when he dropped his pipe into the water. He tried to swing down on the water pipe to secure his smoking pipe.
Unfortunately he toppled into the water and is believed to have struck his head on something about 6 inches below the water line. Dr. Flynn conducted a post mortem examination and concluded – ” Death was due to asphyxia , caused by drowning “. There was no sign of liquor in his stomach.
A verdict of ” Accidentl Death by drowning “, was returned.
