REPORTS ON SOLDIER’S DEATH

Informant – GATES, C.H. – Pte. 5169, 11th Battalion – ” I am only too sorry to confirm the report of poor Arthur MORRIS’ death. He was in the same party as myself, he being a matter of 4 or 5 men in front of me. We were going up to the trenches as reserves and during¬† a very heavy bombardment,¬† a shell dropped just where I was, and he and two others were killed instantly. As soon as I came up with him , I recognized him. He was buried close to where he was killed. The whole thing happened on the 21st August, 1916 “.

 

Informant – NOBLE, J- 5167 ” C ” Company 11th Battalion – ” Pte. A. WORRALL, ” A ” Company 11th Battalion told me he was alongside him when he was killed by a shell on his way to Mouquet Farm. He was carrying up ammunition at the time with fatigue party “.
