REPORTS OF SOLDIER’S DEATH

Informant -3416- McGHIE, A.R. MM, 51st Battalion ” D ” Company – ” I am a stretcher bearer and was with NASH when he died. He had been hit by a shell and lived only a few minutes. He told me he was hit all over and he was bleeding very profusely. We carried him about 20 yards when he died. This was at the hop over at Zonnebeke Ridge, we had to leave him then  to attend to other cases. I do not know anything later of him “.

 

Informant – 244- GILLETT, A – 51st Battalion – ” He was a stretcher bearer and I saw him killed outright by a shell just at the hop over about 10 to 6 in the morning. He was buried on Anzac Farm, came from W.A.  Big , burly chap, fine fellow- A cobber of mine “.
