 ” On 2nd April 1917 Pte. NOELL , a Battalion stretcher bearer at NOREUIL , showed great bravery and endurance in carrying wounded from the front line to the R.A.F. for many hours across a mile of open country swept by machine Gun & Shell fire “.

 ” On night 24th/25th April 1918 during a counter attack by his Battalion on strong enemy position South of VILLERS-BRETTONEUX  this N.C.O who was in charge of his Company Stretcher Bearers did excellent work under very heavy shell and Machine Gun fire  in clearing the casualties.  With an utter disregard for his own personal safety  he repeatedly went to the assistance of the wounded.  By his untiring energy and devotion to duty he was instrumental in saving many lives “
