MILITARY MEDAL
Date of Recommendation : 21 September 1918
” Near VILLEBET , during our attack on the Brown Line on September 18th, 1918, this NCO was in charge of the Machine Guns. Although wounded at the Brown Line he refused to leave his section. During the advance , a flank of the Company was held up by enemy Machine Gun fire and by skilful manoevuring he outflanked and demolished the guns thereby allowing the advance to continue. At the Brown Line his officer bacame a casualty and he took charge of the four guns and skilfully placed them in position and engaged four enemy Machine Guns , inflicting casualties as the crews withdrew. To his initiative and devotion to duty the Battalion was able to advance and consolidate with considerably less casualties than might otherwise occurred “.
