MILITARY CROSS
Date of Recommendation : 18 August 1918
” This officer is brought to notice for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations on the 8th August 1918, betweem MORCOURT and MERICOURT- SUR- SOMME ( East of Corbie ). He was in charge of a Company during these operations, and throughout displayed excellent judgement and leadership in the handling of his men. In the advance from the RED to the BLUE line he was exposed to heavy flank fire over the whole distance , and it is very largely due to the spledid handling of his Company that he was so successful in carrying out the task allotted to him. During the advance he personally attacked a post containg 4 of the enemy and a Machine Gun. He shot the Gunner and captured the remainder of the crew, with the gun. As soon as his objective was attained , he proceeded personally to a Tank which was on fire in the vicinity, and still subjected to severe enemy fire, and rescued several of the Tank Garrison and got them back to positions of safety. This was all done under very intense Machine Gun fire. He is very strongly recommended for distintion “.
