4.04.1918- Court of Enquiry found soldier to have been Killed in Action at Passchendaele Ridge Belgium.
REPORT OF SOLDIER’S DEATH
Informant – PEDLER, Pte. J, 2879 – ” B ” Company 39th Battalion – ” He was of ” D ” Company. On Passchendaele Ridge on 12th October I saw TATE lying dead on the field, killed by a shell. This was when we were retiring off the ground about 4 o’clock in the afternoon. He would not be buried by our men, as we had to retire to our original line. He was killed near Passchendaele Village, close to our objective, which was beyond the village, which we passed through. Christian name Norman. Knew him personally, came over in same Reinforcements from WA, 6th of 39th Battalion “.
