” This man is brought under notice  for his splendid work as a Regimental stretcher bearer during operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September 1917.  He worked continuously for over 24 Hours carrying wounded back to the rear over most difficult and swampy country.  During the whole time he was under heavy enemy fire.  His example and gallant conduct were an inspiration throughout.  He is recommended for distinction “.
