REPORT OF SOLDIER’S DEATH
Informant – EVANS, E.G.M, C.F – ” He was brought on the Hospital ship ” Assaye ” on the afternoon of October 12th at Haifa in Palestine. He was suffering from Pneumonia complicated by exposure in the field. It was at once seen that he was dying and although every attention was given him, he died the same evening, shortly after seven. He was conscious almost to the last and knew that he was going to die. He left a message for his little girl Mary, to whom he sent his love and wished her to know that he died thinking of her. He was buried at sea next morning with a full Church of England service, read by the Captain of the ship “.
