 ” At PETILLON on the night of the 19th/20th July 1916, Private WILLIAMS in spite of repeated attacks , held a communication trench in the enemy lines practically unaided for a period of some hours.  He frustrated several attempts by bombing parties to break through by this route and was one of the last men to leave the sector.  His work has been constantly good “.
