DISTINGUISHED  CONDUCT  MEDAL

Date of Recommendation  :  11 October 1918

” On 3rd October 1918 during the operations at BEAUREVOIR near ST. QUENTIN , Sgt. WILSON had charge of two Machine Guns attached to 26th Battalion Aust Infantry .  After getting his guns into action he reconnoitred forward under heavy Machine Gun fire , and discovered valuable information as to the enemy position at BELLEVUE FARM.  He covered a slight withdrawal of the line by Machine Gun fire , though he was under direct fire from the enemy, and then carried several wounded men to our lines.   During this time his Gun Crew became casualties and he worked single handed until he found a crew for his gun.  After getting his gun into action again, he went across the open in face of heavy enemy fire and succeeded in getting one Machine Gun into action from parts of three which had been knocked out.  His energy, initiative and disregard of danger were most exemplary “.
