MILITARY  MEDAL

Date  of  Recommendation : 25 October 1917

” This man is brought under notice for conspicuous gallantry near BROODSEINDE on the night of the 21st/22nd October 1917.  He was in charge of a Lewis Gun post , which was some distance in front of our line , and during the night in question was subjected to severe shell fire.  One shell wounded two of his gun crew , and almost obliterated his post, but WORTHINGTON, with splendid bravery , after bandaging the wounded, with his remaining men got together and worked to dig another gun position.  Meanwhile he himself took his gun to a shell-hole near by, so as to keep the front covered.  His tireless energy and devotion to duty , and his utter disregard of personal risk , inspired his men to do their utmost , and kept them cheerful throughout.  He is recommended for distinction.  This man was killed during the relief of the Battalion on the night of the 23rd/24th October 1917 “.
