” On the 7th, 8th and 9th June 1917 at MESSINES for the display of great courage and conspicuous devotion to duty whilst under heavy shell fire during the attack on the MESSINES RIDGE. Although gassed early in the operation this officer remained continuously on duty until his Battalion was relieved on the morning of the 9th June. During this time 450 cases passed through his Regimental Aid Post. The gallant conduct of this officer whilst under heavy hostile shell fire has been brought under notice on numerous previous occasions “.
