” I have to inform you that the late Carl Dolla was an Egyptian having been born on the River Nile. When a boy he was kidnapped by an English Professor and brought to England. On the death of the Professor, Dolla came to Australia, from what he told me. I concluded he was an orphan when kidnapped. He certainly has no blood relations in Australia . I am sole beneficiary under his will and was Granted Probate by the Supreme Court of Western Australia “.
28/09/1922- Letter from Personal Friend- Mrs Dora Karl, Penang, Straits Settlements, Singapore who was awarded Soldier’s Service Medals, including Memorial Plaque/Scroll.
” The late No. 489- Dolla, Pte. Carl, 16th Battalion AIF is not related. The Soldier named was a dear personal friend of my husband and myself, and in the course of his civilian life spent his available spare time at our home. The friendship which existed between us was very deep, and it does not surprise me that he wished me to be his Legatee. I am not aware that his mother is alive , and the fact that I am mentioned would appear to have been done by him , in the full intention that I should receive his estate – in the event of his mother not being alive to inherit “.
