” On the night of 26th/27th February, 1917, at LE BARQUE. At the commencement of operations prior to the capture of LE BARQUE, PHILLIPS established under heavy Machine Gun fire strong posts on the right flank of the village, and actively harrassed the enemy. He showed much initiative and dash in ” mopping-up work “, both in LE BARQUE and THILLOY . He organized his section under heavy fire , and set a splendid example of courage and devotion to duty to his men during the operations “.
