Date of Recommendation : 1 October 1917
” For gallantry and devotion to duty during operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September 1917. This non-commissioned officer who was the Medical Corporal, followed the attacking troops forward to locate and establish a forward Dressing Station. Later on, under heavy Machine Gun and shell fire, he went back, and brought up supplies of dressings to the new Aid Post , where he then remained attending to the wounded. His conduct throughout was of the highest order and he was unsparing of self and made most gallant efforts to get in, and dress the wounded . Tha Advanced Aid Post where this N.C.O carried out his work , was in the open and by his gallantry in voluntarily establishing a Post so far forward , he undoubtedly saved the lives of many men. He is strongly recommended for distinction “.
